Welcome to what I hope becomes a well-traveled forum - one where residents and advocates of Appalachia can share ideas and low-impact practices to move the region forward in a progressive and sustainable manner.
Appalachia means many things to many people, but one unifying aspect is the beautiful land that comprises this often overlooked and dilapidated region of America. By identifying problematic issues and finding modern solutions, I am confident that we can transition Appalachia into a golden era - one that embraces rural living and promotes economic self-sufficiency through cooperative agriculture and sustainable energy development.
Expect commentary on the issues that continue to cause rifts in these tranquil valleys. Poverty and obesity. Coal and fracking. Outdoor recreation and environmental stewardship. Permaculture and rural regentrification. All topics must be on the table if we are to alter the pervasive practices that have depleted Appalachia of its best resources: its educated citizens and its natural resources.
Thank you for joining me on this ambitious mission of transition and for carrying on the conversations that must be heard in the world's oldest mountains.
